Ventura County

Ventura County is located along the Pacific Coast and claims 42 miles of coastline within its borders and is located in the southern part of California with close proximity to greater Los Angeles.. Some of the most popular cities include, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Newbury Park, and Camarillo.  Ventura County is also home to the Los Padres National Forest, a protected area that spans nearly half the county.

Census Information

Ventura County's 2010 U.S. census reported an estimated 835,981 residents (2012). The population is growing at a 1.5 percent rate, just under the state's national average. Ventura County itself ranks 11th in population size of the 58 California counties.

Climate

The climate in Ventura County is mild year-round and mostly sunny. The area averages just half of the average rainfall across the nation as a whole (17.5 percent versus 36.5 percent) and banks a record 273 sunny days per year! In July, the area's hottest month, temperatures average around 80 degrees. The coolest month, January, delivers temperatures in the low 40's. It gets nearly zero snowfall historically.

Industry

There are many industries that are represented within the county, including agriculture, biotechnology, tourism, military, other technology, oil production, and more. The U.S. military has two naval bases and an Air National Guard base within the county as well, which together employ more than 16,000 people. The Ventura government is another significant employer.
